Repair Deep Skin Damage

Your Essential 6-Step Skin Care Program began with Steps 1 & 2 (Cleansing and Toning).  To these we now add two powerful products to treat damaged skin.

Steps 3 & 4:  Skin Lightening and Exfoliating

Causes of Deep Skin Damage

How does our skin become damaged over time?  Let us count the ways…

The biggest culprit is, of course, overexposure to the sun, which leads to a coarsening, loosening, and discoloration of the fragile skin surface and creates cellular changes in the deeper layers under the surface. Age-related imperfections then begin to appear.

Visible aging starts to become noticeable at around the age of 25, as your skin replaces old cells at a slower rate.  Once we reach 45, hormonal changes also kick in, resulting in a thinning of the skin.  This, in turn, makes us more vulnerable to damage caused by environmental factors such as pollutants and UV rays, poor lifestyle habits (smoking, dietary choices, insufficient sleep), certain types of skin care and makeup products, some medications, and the wrong skin care regimen.  Then, of course, there’s the simple fact that the natural aging process and the pull of gravity combine to undermine the integrity of the skin as time goes by.

As we get older, blood vessels decrease and the skin often becomes dryer (or oilier).  A reduction in collagen, which supports the underlying skin layers contributes to cause noticeable loosening and wrinkling.  Sometimes skin blemishes increasingly occur with aging – often a byproduct of hormonal shifts, stress, and other factors.

Common Problems Seen in Deeply Damaged Skin

  • Age spots / Liver Spots
  • Enlarged pores
  • Irritated, reddened skin
  • Loosening, wrinkling skin
  • Coarseness of skin texture
  • Scaly spots or areas on the skin
  • Oily, breakout-prone complexion
  • Breakouts of milia, acne, or cystic acne
  • Areas of discoloration / hyperpigmentation
  • Dull, flaky skin and loss of brightness in complexion

Solutions

To combat skin damage, Steps 3 & 4 of the Dermesse Essential 6-Step Collection add the use of potent, pharmaceutical grade skin color correcting and exfoliating solutions, to even out your skin tone and facilitate faster, more effective turnover of old skin cells so that newer, healthier skin can emerge.

Your customized Dermesse Skin Care plan will now include our advanced formula Skin Lightening Cream and Exfoliator.

Dermesse Skin Lightener

This advanced product is precisely formulated to treat deeply damaged skin in order to correct pigmentation problems like age spots, liver spots, and freckles.  It also targets areas where an excess of melanin has led to hyperpigmentation.  4% hydroquinone is the maximum amount proven in clinical studies to safely lighten skin when used regularly as prescribed by your doctor.  You will see a noticeable difference within 6 weeks and continuous improvement over time (remember to use your Dermesse Sunblock).  Dermesse Skin Lightener also contains powerful antioxidants like Vitamins C and E and glycolic acid, so you can naturally exfoliate old skin cells.

Dermesse Exfoliator

Your doctor will determine which one of our Step 4 exfoliating lotions is best for your unique skin condition.  Dermesse Exfoliating Lotion will suppress the overproduction of sebum (oil), tighten your pores, smooth and even out your skin, and efficiently remove your outermost layers of dead skin cells so that fresh, healthy skin can emerge.  Dermesse Exfoliator Lotions have the added benefit of preparing the skin so that increased penetration of your other Dermesse products can take place.  Remember – skin damage runs deep.  This means that the deeper into the layers of your skin your corrective products go, the more effective they will be.   This product contains 14% alpha hydroxy acid (buffered to 10%), which means it’s excellent for skin with less damage.  Dermesse Exfoliator also contains glycolic acid and a number of emollient and water binding ingredients to keep your skin hydrated and calm during the healing process.

Dermesse Exfoliator Forte

This is a more potent formulation for removing dead skin cells, containing a more active (less buffered) 14% concentration of AHA to remove dead skin cells, eliminate impurities lodged in the deeper layers of the skin, and improve the texture of your skin.  It’s the exfoliating product of choice for those with thicker or very oily skin, effectively targeting mild to moderate acne as it reconditions your skin.  Exfoliator Forte contains a host of essential ingredients that hydrate and exfoliate deeply damaged skin, enabling quicker healing and more effective penetration of your other Dermesse products.

Did You Know?

There are two types of aging…

  • Intrinsic aging – what we are born with, handed down by our genetic code
  • Extrinsic aging – what we are exposed to environmentally – sun, cold, pollution, lifestyle habits, & other stressors

Did You Know?

Your skin…

  • Is the largest organ of the body
  • Is a barrier to the outside world
  • Keeps out water, heat, cold, germs, & insects
  • The top layer (epidermis) is as thin as a piece of paper
  • The inner layers (dermis) makes up 90% of your skin mass

Did You Know?

Skin has habits, just like people do…

  • Beautiful skin has the habit of reproducing itself, making more beautiful skin
  • Troubled skin has the habit of reproducing itself, making more troubled skin
  • If you don’t interfere with your skin’s habits, your skin will not get healthy
  • You can retrain your skin on the cellular level to produce healthy new skin
  • You can rebuild your skin from the inside out
  • Once your skin achieves health, you can maintain it for life

Did You Know?

As our skin ages, it’s not pretty…

  • The outer layer of your skin thickens, creating uneven texture
  • You have less cell turnover
  • Your pores enlarge
  • Cells that make melanin function irregularly, leading to age spots and discoloration
  • Collagen and elastin production slows down, weakening and loosening your skin
  • Blood supply to skin is diminished, so less nutrients feed your skin
  • Thick, irregular connective tissue forms, contributing to wrinkles

Did You Know?

Over-the-Counter Skin Care Products…

  • Contain low (weak) concentrations of active ingredients, by law
  • Aren’t formulated with enough strength to heal below the surface
  • Only work on the top layer of your skin
  • Don’t penetrate deeply enough to actually change your skin
  • Randomly chosen skin care products often work against each other
  • Confuse the skin, while you keep trying, keep hoping…
  • Lead to discouragement…so many bottles & jars…so little improvement
  • Won’t correct your underlying skin condition, so they…
  • Won’t result in a permanent improvement in your skin

Did You Know?

To actually repair your complexion…

  • It has to be corrected from the inside out – not from the outside in
  • You have to actually reverse the causes – and signs – of aging
  • You need a set of interacting products made to work together to get real results
  • You have to pick a pharmaceutical grade skin care regimen
  • You have to make a commitment to stay with it for 4-1/2 months
  • You have to follow it exactly
  • You have to decide you’ve had enough…and do what needs to be done.
