Hydroquinone, the popular melanin-inhibitor/skin lightening agent used in Dermesse skin care products, has a long and interesting history. A recent article on modernmedicine.com asks dermatologist Jeannette Graf, M.D. about the history and safety of hydroquinone.
“Hydroquinone has primarily been used as a photographic developer through history,” she says. The doctor provides a brief history about this popular lightening agent, leading us to the present day situation. She says:
“Presently, the FDA is getting all sorts of feedback from interested parties, including manufacturers and dermatologists who want to see over-the-counter hydroquinone products available because hydroquinone is the most effective skin-lightening agent.”
In Dermesse products, the skin lightener is formulated with 4 percent hydroquinone, glycolic acid, and Vitamin C. Dermesse products contain a proprietary formulation that dramatically improves comfort (in comparison to other Hydroquinone products). With Vitamin C used in Dermesse hydroquinone skin lightener, the product is even more effective.
Dermesse offers two concentrations of 2 percent and 4 percent hydroquinone.
